October has seen UEL celebrate 125 years since opening originally as the West Ham Technical Institute. The month started with the International Study Centre welcoming our largest cohort of 450 students during a comprehensive welcome programme, in conjunction with the University’s international student orientation events before UEL’s anniversary has been enjoyed in style by students and staff.

First came the Anniversary Fair at the University’s Docklands campus, home to the ISC, followed by a Gala event at UEL’s Stratford site where many of our ISC students will progress to. This evening also featured a VIP dinner to mark the launch of UEL’s Impact Report, attended by Richard Mace, our CEO. The accompanying celebratory light show highlighted key moments in UEL’s history and achievements including UEL’s recent shortlisting in the Times Higher Education University of The Year 2023 award.

Simon Fitch, Centre Director at our UEL International Study Centre reflected ‘since 1898, the University has transformed, always offering an incredibly diverse student population with the opportunities to realise their potential with a careers- ready focus which continues to this day. We are proud to work with the University in welcoming so many international students, and to be part of the UEL community celebrating a very happy 125th anniversary!
